General Description

The Research Coordinator is responsible for leading and supporting project related initiatives and activities. The Coordinator reports technically to the Research Project Manager, Aquadapt Project and administratively to the Operations Director, Philippine Program, and works closely with the project team. The post holder will be based in Guinayangan, Quezon.

Responsibilities

As the Research Coordinator, his/her main responsibilities and tasks are as follows:

  1. Lead and manage the field implementation of the project.
  • Guide and supervise Field Researchers in three sites (Guinayangan, Ivisan and Leyte) of the project;
  • In consultation with the project team, prepare project work plan based on project design/approved proposal;
  • Ensure committed deliverables of the project are accomplished in a timely manner;
  • Ensure monitoring and evaluation system is fully implemented;
  • Conduct field visits and partner meetings to track progress of the project on a regular basis (weekly and monthly);
  • Manage the project budget, tracking budget allocation and expenditure, and prepare and update project variance report (PVR) on a monthly basis;
  • Ensure proper management of project assets and other resources according to current policies and procedures;
  • Collaborate to facilitate regular participatory project self-review and planning by project groups;
  • Draft and finalize progress and end project reports, both narrative and financial, for submission.
  1. Assist in organizing and implementing project-related activities.
  • Coordinate and conduct preparatory activities as agreed with the project team;
  • Act as resource person in capacity building activities (e.g. trainings, fora, etc.);
  • Develop and promote innovative and best practices for projects and ensure documentation of experiences and lessons learned;
  • Develop experience/research-based knowledge products relevant to project promotion and advocacy;
  • Perform finance-related duties and responsibilities (such as liquidation of any cash advances), as well as judiciously care for any financial and or non-financial resources, assets, and/or property of IIRR;
  • Develop concept notes/project ideas and proposals and contribute to resource generation to grow the program;
  • Manage and maintain operational networks/partnerships with project communities, local government partners, and provincial line departments.

Requirements

  • A degree in environmental science, natural resource management, sociology, geography or other related discipline (master’s degree an advantage)
  • 5-10 years experience of handling field-based projects in relation to water & coastal resources, including experience working with organizations and communities on various development projects
  • Strong project management experience (project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation), preferably in an NGO setting
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; knowledge of one or more Asian languages a plus
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability in conceptual and operational skills suited to rural development programs and projects
  • Knowledge and/or experience in action research methodologies
  • Familiarity with methods, tools and techniques in participatory planning, monitoring and evaluation
  • Team player and ability to work productively with teams
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and multicultural work environment
  • Computer proficient, with knowledge and experience in word processing and database management
