In Uganda, IIRR and partners are funding projects to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, and secure their land tenure to reduce conflict, boost production and increase their food security.

With support from IIRR, the Global Land Tool Network, the UNHabitat, and the government of Uganda enabled the registration of land using a customary process to curb land disputes. To date, about 10,000 people in Naweyo, Mazimasa and Kachonga sub-counties received certificates of customary ownership bringing peace and harmony among communities. Ugandans can now cultivate their land without fear of engaging in conflicts.

With support from the UN World Food Program and District Local Governments, IIRR initiates Agriculture and Market Support that provides farmer training on Farming as a Business (FaaB), Agricultural Financing, Post-Harvest Management, and Entrepreneurship Development. Multi-stakeholders fairs in various districts in Karamoja region were held to increase collective marketing of quality products and develop partnerships. New technologies for maize, beans, and white sorghum were showcased.

Traditional food and seed fair focused on fostering agricultural biodiversity for healthy diets were also organized in partnership with PELUM Uganda through the Right to Food Project. IIRR trained farmers exhibited their preserved crops and seed species to deepen community awareness and appreciation on the value of indigenous and traditional food systems.
