The aim of creating this documentation was to ensure that the publication would be of special relevance to development workers and trainors from local and national governments, agricultural colleges, non-government organizations and small farmer organizations. Traditional and modified shifting cultivation is changing under the impact of many internal and external factors. The shifting cultivators themselves are considered among the world’s poorest people but simultaneously manage some of the world’s richest biodiversity. In many cases, they are adapting to the changing environment.
