This book follows a long tradition of gender and development scholarship and activism by highlighting the importance of women’s roles in agricultural production and economic development. Written by practitioners, it brings together NGO experiences of working on value chains and using a gender lens in doing so. he case for recognizing and addressing gender inequalities in agricultural production and economic development has been made consistently since the economist Ester Boserup wrote “Woman’s role in economic development” in 1970. This book became the foundational text of the Women in Development movement and initiatives in subsequent decades.
